Doodle Daydream

Hi second graders, and anyone looking to relax a bit... this is a great lesson for you!  Sometimes it is important for us to NOT have so many rules when we are creating art  This is a lesson all about using your imagination and creativity, and I think you're going to like it.  Start out with a pencil and paper...

Close your eyes, and make one long, continuous line, all around your paper.  Be sure to make some loops and squiggles, but don't go completely overboard, because you'll be turning all your scribbles into creatures, animals, aliens....whatever you can come up with.

Here comes the fun part...hone in on some of those loopy details of your long line.  You can think of this as though you're looking at clouds and trying to see pictures in them.  If you turn your paper a different way, does it help you see a potential picture?

This part stood out to me.  The small section on the right side of the line reminded me of a mouth...

Boom!  Octopus with a reallllllly big mouth!

Keep doing this throughout your paper.  Keep turning your paper to check things out from a different angle.  Remember, you don't have to go the ocean critter route.  What you create doesn't even have to exist in real life.  Sky's the limit!

That part looked like an eye to me....

It also helps if you choose a different color to outline with, for each of your creations or animals within your picture.

Feel free to add other details to the background, if you have lots of space (I added some waves and bubbles).

Color, and you're done!  See? Wasn't that fun?  I hope you enjoyed it, and I can't wait to see what you came up with!
