Hello third graders and art fans! Time for a new take on a self portrait. We'll be talking about a different style of art called CUBISM. Cubism was first experimented and developed by the well-known artist, Pablo Picasso. You can identify this type of art as art that looks like it's been painted from multiple angles. There also tend to be many shapes seen all over cubist style artwork. Here are two portraits done by Pablo Picasso.... do you see how the eyes appear to be different from one another? Weird....but interesting to look at!
For this project, you'll be drawing yourself from two angles, in the style of CUBISM. Here's my example, and I'll walk you through step by step how I achieved this look.
Remember, part of your portrait will be drawn straight on....
The other part will be drawn in profile, which means "from the side", like so...
Start with the head, neck, and shoulders in the middle of your paper.
Next we add in that line right down the middle, which is shows how someone's face might look in PROFILE (from the side).
Our eyes also look different from the side than they do when we are facing forward. The sideways view of our eyes, is almost like a slice of pizza, or a curved triangle....
Add in the pupil and the iris (2 semi-circles)...
From the front, our eyes are a football shape...
Next, add your other details. For fun, I did a different hair style on each side of the head. You can do what you think...maybe half a baseball cap and half a top hat...anything goes!
